Abu Dhabi, February 16 / WAM / The National Archives and the National Library organized an introductory workshop entitled “Organizing Archives in Local Authorities in the State,” in implementation of the recommendations of the Supreme Committee for Organizing Documents and Archives in the State, headed by His Excellency Hamad bin Abdul Rahman Al Midfa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Archives and the National Library.
The organization of the workshop comes within the framework of the National Archives and Library’s continuation of its obligations within the work of the Supreme Committee, and its keenness to inform the concerned authorities in the various emirates of the country of the requirements for organizing documents and archives at the local level, and to promote best practices in this field.
The workshop – in which representatives and experts from various emirates of the country participated – reviewed Federal Law No. (7) of 2008 regarding the Archives and the National Library, its amendments and its executive regulations, with a focus on articles related to the roles and responsibilities of local authorities in supervising the organization of documents in each emirate.
The workshop addressed the tasks of representatives of the competent authorities in each emirate, methodologies for evaluating the conditions of documents in local government agencies, and mechanisms for analyzing evaluation data to prepare interim reports that monitor the reality of paper and electronic documents and the conditions of their preservation, in a way that ensures their safety, sustainability, and the possibility of optimal use of them.
The workshop shed light on work models, the mechanism for completing them, and the semi-annual periodic reports that must be submitted to the Supreme Committee, in a way that contributes to the follow-up, guidance and development of the national system for managing state documents. The workshop resulted in setting the features of a work program for the short and medium term, and witnessed interaction from the participants through their inquiries and proposals that reflected the importance of the topic and its national dimensions.
The National Archives and Library confirmed their readiness to organize more specialized awareness events in this field, and to respond to the requests of government agencies in the country, in a way that strengthens the document management system and preserves the nation’s memory for future generations.
