After years of estrangement, Harry seeks reconciliation, but William refuses

A recent report revealed that British Prince Harry tried to communicate with his brother, Prince William, with whom he lost contact years ago, through an intermediary, but the Prince of Wales refused to enter into any dialogue with his younger brother.
Writer and royal expert Omid Scobie reported yesterday that Harry’s unsuccessful attempt at reconciliation with William coincided with his writing his book “End Game” in 2023.
Scobie said: “I was in contact with people very close to Harry, and among what I was informed was that he contacted an intermediary, a mutual friend between him and his brother, in the hope that this would give them an opportunity to talk together, perhaps in the presence of a third party, or through any other means,” but no dialogue took place between the two brothers.
Scobie explained: “The offer for dialogue was not received in any way, so it seems to me now, from my point of view, that the dividing wall between them still exists.”
He added: “Unless positions change on both sides, there will be no way to a solution.”
Since 2020, Prince William, 43, has been estranged from his brother, Prince Harry, 41, after the latter gave up his royal duties and moved to the United States with his wife, Meghan Markle.
In his new book, “William and Catherine: The New Age of the Monarchy: The Inside Story,” author Russell Myers stated that William felt “deeply sad” about Harry’s decision to leave the United Kingdom.
“The estrangement between the two princes had been gradually increasing over the years, but he now realized in his heart that the matter had become irreversible,” Myers wrote.
He added that the “beautiful memories” of the brothers’ childhood, including their support for each other after the death of their mother, Princess Diana, and their upbringing in the spotlight, “have been distorted by the disputes that ravage the heart of the family.”
In the same context, Myers pointed out that Catherine Middleton “was not as interested as her husband in trying to persuade Harry to remain in his position,” and he also stated that the Princess of Wales believed that Harry’s resignation from his position was “inevitable.”
For his part, Harry spoke about his dispute with his family during an interview with the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in May 2025.
“There were many disagreements between me and some members of my family,” he said, adding that he had since “forgiven them.”
Harry later met his father, King Charles III, during a visit to London in September, where they held an hour-long meeting at the cancer-stricken king’s residence, Clarence House.
Harry did not meet his brother William during his time in the United Kingdom.
