The UAE provides urgent relief aid to those affected by the Mozambique floods

The UAE, through the Emirates International Aid Agency, provided urgent relief aid to support those affected by the recent floods in the friendly Republic of Mozambique, which resulted in the death of dozens of people and damage to large residential areas.
The UAE’s urgent relief aid comes within the framework of its international commitment and humanitarian responsibilities towards extending a helping hand and providing relief to the afflicted and standing with those in need as a result of natural disasters and climate crises in various parts of the world, in line with the country’s foreign aid policy on the one hand, and reflects cooperation with UN and international organizations and local institutions in the beneficiary countries on the other hand.
In this context, the head of the Emirates International Aid Agency, Dr. Tariq Ahmed Al Ameri, stressed that the UAE will continue its pioneering global humanitarian role in the urgent relief response and help those affected by natural disasters, in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, “may God protect him”, towards immediate response to crises and emergencies and helping affected communities and peoples by providing all support in its various forms to achieve early recovery and ensure access to basic needs of food, medicine, clothing and shelter, under the supervision of His Highness. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office for Development Affairs and Families of Martyrs, Chairman of the International Humanitarian Affairs Council, and in coordination with all relevant parties locally, regionally and internationally.
He explained that the friendly Republic of Mozambique has witnessed heavy rains accompanied by widespread floods since the beginning of last January, especially in the southern and central regions, which resulted in massive human and material losses, and also led to the displacement of large numbers of residents and damage to infrastructure and basic services, noting that the agency provided shelter supplies, necessary food materials, medical medicines, and therapeutic vaccines for cholera diseases to all affected societal groups, including men, women, and children.
It is worth noting that the provision of basic foodstuffs will be through purchase from the local market in the Republic of Mozambique in coordination with the UAE Embassy, ​​with the aim of ensuring the speed of the urgent relief response and supporting the local economy.
