Dubai, February 20 / WAM / The semi-finals of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship for women in the 1000 points category have been completed, after the conclusion of the quarter-final matches that were held today on the main court of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Stadium, and witnessed great excitement, with three American players qualifying for the semi-finals alongside a Ukrainian player.

American Jessica Pegula, ranked fifth in the world, reserved her place in the semi-finals by defeating Danish Clara Tawson, ranked 12th and runner-up in the last edition, with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-4, continuing her journey steadily and securing 390 points in the world rankings.

Her compatriot Amanda Anisimova, ranked second in the tournament and sixth in the world, also qualified after a marathon victory over defending champion Mira Andreeva, ranked fifth, with a score of 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4), in a confrontation that lasted about 160 minutes and was decided by a tie-break in the third set, making the match set for an all-American semi-final.

In another confrontation, American Coco Gauff, ranked third in the tournament and fourth in the world, reached the semi-finals after defeating Filipino Alexandra Ayala, ranked 40th in the world and the highest-ranked player in Philippine history, in two unanswered sets, 6-0 and 6-2, in a match that lasted 68 minutes.

The group of qualifiers was completed with the qualification of Ukrainian Elina Svitolina, ranked seventh in the tournament, after her victory over Croatian Antonia Rozic, the qualifier, with a score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 in a match that lasted two hours, two minutes and 20 seconds, after she overturned her deficit in the first set into a well-deserved victory.

Attention turns to the semi-final matches scheduled for tomorrow, where Pegula will meet Anisimova, while Gauff will face her counterpart Svitolina, in a struggle for two tickets to the final match.
