Dubai Municipality transforms infrastructure assets on Sheikh Zayed Road into distinctive opportunities to beautify the city

Dubai Municipality announced the completion of a new artistic initiative aimed at beautifying 70 units of infrastructure assets extending along Sheikh Zayed Road from the Dubai World Trade Center to Dubai Media City, through the implementation of artworks designed by the Emirati artist Hend Khaled, within the framework of a project that enhances the presence of local art in public space, and transforms service and infrastructure elements into aesthetic components that are consistent with the urban landscape of Dubai and enhances its attractiveness.

The initiative comes in line with Dubai’s vision of developing an integrated urban environment that combines innovation, beauty and sustainability, and reflects its continuous keenness to improve the quality of life and enhance the visual landscape in line with its global position as a pioneering city in urban design.

The initiative aims to integrate infrastructure assets into its visual surroundings through artistic designs inspired by the nature of the emirate and its diverse culture. The works express Dubai’s natural and urban features in a contemporary manner that reflects the spirit of the city and its development, transforming infrastructure assets into distinctive opportunities and vibrant artistic paintings that reflect the emirate’s identity, raise the quality of the urban landscape, and make Dubai more aesthetic and attractive.

The designs vary between drawing inspiration from Ghaf trees; With the sustainable environmental symbolism it represents, and the embodiment of Dubai’s desert nature through sand gradients and the presence of palm trees, in addition to works that express urban growth and the renewed horizon of the emirate, in an integrated artistic vision that highlights originality, innovation, modernity, and environmental balance that distinguishes the city.

Engineer Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said: “This initiative reflects Dubai Municipality’s commitment to developing an urban landscape that is consistent with the emirate’s identity as a city that combines urban beauty, sustainability, and quality of life in a visual framework that adds aesthetic value to the built and urban environment, which extends to building an integrated experience that touches on the details of the daily lives of residents and visitors. The goals of our projects always start from a fundamental axis: how can they contribute to making Dubai more attractive, sustainable, and quality of life, with an integrated experience that creates memories. “Distinctive for residents and visitors, ensuring that Dubai is the most beautiful, civilized and sophisticated city in the world.”

For his part, Badr Anwahi, Executive Director of the Public Utilities Corporation in Dubai Municipality, said: “The implementation of the project is based on an integrated engineering and technical methodology, which ensures consistency in the quality of work and its sustainability, by integrating technical designs with infrastructure assets in a manner that enhances their operational function and gives them a contemporary aesthetic dimension. We at Dubai Municipality are keen that this initiative contributes to the development of a balanced urban environment that shows the beauty of Dubai and the diversity of its components.”

The participation of Emirati artist Hend Khaled in the project embodies Dubai Municipality’s approach to supporting national talent and highlighting local creativity in the public space, as her works are characterized by integrating heritage and contemporary identity in a calm and expressive visual style. She has previously cooperated in government projects and community initiatives and won multiple artistic awards.

This project is consistent with the objectives of Dubai Municipality by enhancing the quality of the urban experience, developing the visual environment, supporting civilized behaviors, and highlighting the aesthetic vision of the emirate that combines urban development and human values.
