Signed by His Highness and the Rulers of the Emirates/President of the State "National Charter for Education"

ABU DHABI, 28th February, 2017 (WAM) – His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, launched the National Education Charter in a national step aimed at establishing a comprehensive reference that defines the strategic objectives of the education sector in the UAE, and establishes a comprehensive framework for the identity of education, the characteristics of graduates, societal values, and future competencies, in a way that enhances the status of education as a priority and a main axis in building people and creating the future.
The charter was signed, during the ceremony held at Al Bahr Palace in Abu Dhabi, by His Highness the President of the State, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Fujairah, and His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. Al Quwain, His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, and His Highness Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman.
The launch of the “National Charter for Education” coincides with the “Emirati Education Day”, which falls on the twenty-eighth of February of each year, and confirms the national symbolism of this day and embodies the country’s renewed commitment to consolidating education as a sustainable approach in the development process.
The charter embodies the UAE’s comprehensive vision for the future of education, and clearly defines the features of the Emirati learner around whom an educational system with a well-established identity, world-class and sustainable impact is centered, which contributes to enhancing the country’s competitiveness and consolidating its knowledge leadership, in addition to establishing a national trend that ensures the harmony of educational policies in the long term, and achieves a balance between the stability required for the educational system and the flexibility necessary to respond to future changes and the needs of society and the labor market.
On this occasion, His Highness the President stressed that education represents the cornerstone of the path of progress and development in the UAE, stressing that investing in people is a guarantee of sustainable development and shaping the future.
His Highness said that building a human being who is proud of his national identity, adheres to his Arabic language and authentic values, and is qualified with the skills of the future, represents a national priority and a strategic goal that we are working to achieve through an integrated national educational system that places the learner at the heart of the development process, and establishes a new phase of education based on clarity of purpose, consistency of policies, and sustainability of impact.
His Highness stressed that education is the path to achieving the UAE’s vision, which requires strengthening the sector’s governance and developing its policies in a sustainable manner that keeps pace with national ambitions, noting that the charter represents a road map to advance the education sector and achieve its national goals.
His Highness also stressed that education is an integrated national responsibility, in which the school, the family and society participate within one system. His Highness pointed out that the rapid changes taking place in the world call for proactive action that leads the transformations and turns challenges into qualitative opportunities, thus enhancing the readiness of the educational system and its future efficiency.
