Cheers were heard in the streets of Tehran after information was received about the killing of Khamenei

Cheers were heard in the streets of Tehran on Saturday night, according to eyewitnesses, following reports of the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the US-Israeli attack.

Loud cheers and sounds of applause rose in several neighborhoods of Tehran after eleven o’clock at night local time, according to what a number of witnesses reported.

Iran did not confirm the news of Khamenei’s killing, but Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had announced shortly before that there were “many indications” that the Iranian Supreme Leader had been killed on Saturday.

US President Donald Trump announced Khamenei’s death shortly thereafter on his “Truth Social” platform.

According to Israeli media, a photo of the body was shown to Netanyahu and Trump.

In video clips circulated on social media and verified by Agence France-Presse, sounds of cheering and car horns can be heard.

But also according to social media, residents did not take to the streets in large numbers.

Many Iranians have been living in fear since the bloody crackdown on a large-scale protest movement in January.
