Russian Medvedev champion of Dubai Tennis

Russian Daniil Medvedev won the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship for men in the 500 points category, his second title in the tournament in four years, after his victory was announced yesterday following the withdrawal of Dutchman Talon Grikespoor due to injury.

Grikspor had suffered an injury to the left posterior thigh muscle during his match against Russian Andrey Rublev in the semi-finals the day before yesterday, before medical tests confirmed that he was not ready to compete in the final match of the men’s 500 points tournament. Medvedev said before receiving the title of the 34th edition: “It is of course unfortunate that the match ended in this way. I had noticed that Talon was probably suffering from an injury. Sometimes these injuries get better overnight and you can play despite some pain, and sometimes they get worse. “I think it got worse for him.”
