Liverpool deserved to be eliminated from the Champions League
Virgil van Dijk, captain of the English football team Liverpool, confirmed that his team deserved to be eliminated from the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain, because the team did not provide enough in a disappointing match, and it became worse after the serious injury to Hugo Ekitiki.
When captain Virgil van Dijk was asked whether Liverpool had made a sufficient effort, he said: “This is the minimum, isn’t it? It’s disappointing to fall short, but Paris Saint-Germain deserved to qualify. Getting close to registration is not enough. I’m frustrated with the exclusion, but that’s the truth. “I think Paris Saint-Germain deserved to pass based on the two-legged matches.”
Tuesday’s loss ended Liverpool’s hopes of winning any title this summer, and also apparently witnessed a sudden end to striker Hugo Ekitiki’s first season with the club.
Ekitiki (23 years old) has scored 17 goals in 45 matches in all competitions since joining the team from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, and he intends to go to the World Cup with the French national team.
But Ekitke left the field on a stretcher after landing incorrectly in the first half, with Slott saying the injury “looks pretty bad” and will be examined further.
Liverpool remained silent about the severity of the injury the next morning, amid reports indicating that the striker had suffered a rupture in his Achilles tendon, which could keep him out of action for at least nine months.
On the other hand, Alexander Isak’s return to fitness means that he may lead the attack in Sunday’s derby against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium, as part of the team’s quest to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Van Dijk is still trying to accept defeat, and said: “We must feel very disappointed at this stage. But a huge match awaits us. We all know how important it is. It will be a difficult encounter, but it is something to look forward to. But at the moment, I am not in good condition after being eliminated from the Champions League.”
