Kuwait reduces the percentage of workers in government agencies to 30% due to the current circumstances

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Chairman of the Civil Service Council in Kuwait, Sharida Abdullah Al-Muasherji, announced that the Civil Service Council decided to reduce the percentage of employees in government agencies to not exceed 30% of the total number of employees.
Al-Maousherji said, in a press statement today, Sunday, that “this decision will be implemented from tomorrow, Monday, until further notice, with the aim of organizing the work mechanism of government agencies in light of the current circumstances that the region is going through and in a way that ensures work continuity and preserves the public interest.”
He added, “The decision stipulates that each entity shall determine the appropriate percentage within this limit according to its needs and the nature of its work. If the need arises to increase the percentage, coordination will be made with the Civil Service Commission.”
Al-Maousherji stated that the decision allowed government agencies to implement a weekly rotation system for employees or oblige some of them to work throughout the week without rotation according to work requirements, stressing that the period during which the employee is exempted from work is considered an actual working period.
He pointed out that the decision included stopping work in the evening period without prejudice to the shift system, while agencies and bodies with a special nature of work determine their work mechanism in coordination with the competent authorities and in a manner that takes into account the public interest.
