Targeting an oil tanker northwest of Sultan Qaboos Port

The oil tanker (MKD VYOM), flying the flag of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, was attacked by a drone boat, 52 nautical miles off the coast of Muscat Governorate.
The tanker was carrying approximately 59,463 metric tons of cargo, and the attack resulted in a fire and explosion in the main engine room, which led to the death of an Indian crew member.

The tanker’s crew, consisting of (21) people, including (16) of Indian nationality, (4) of Bangladeshi nationality, and one person of Ukrainian nationality, was evacuated in coordination with the Maritime Security Centre, by the merchant ship (MV SAND), which flies the flag of the Republic of Panama. One of the ships of the Royal Navy of Oman fleet follows up on the condition of the damaged tanker, and also issues the necessary warnings to ships passing through the same maritime area.
