“Dubai Roads” impounds more than 390 bicycles in violation of the legislation of the delivery sector

As part of its efforts to improve public safety and the civilized appearance of the emirate, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, in coordination with the Dubai Police General Headquarters, organized a number of joint patrols to monitor commercial transportation activities, especially the activity of organizing and delivering orders through bicycles, in order to ensure that drivers and companies adhere to the requirements for conducting the activity and the regulatory standards approved in the Emirate of Dubai.
The patrols targeted the most prominent areas where bicycles gather, such as: Al Muraqqabat, Marina, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and the city centre, and resulted in the impoundment of more than 390 bicycles during the past three months, due to their non-compliance with the legislation, regulations and laws regulating activity in the emirate, which aim to improve the quality of services provided to the public and enhance the safety culture of drivers and road users in various regions.
Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of the Licensing Activities Oversight Department at the Licensing Agency of the Roads and Transport Authority, confirmed that the use of bicycles in the delivery sector is witnessing rapid growth during the current period, as it represents one of the most important economic activities in the Emirate of Dubai, which requires strengthening field supervision over it and ensuring its commitment to the safety requirements of drivers and road users, and also ensuring that workers in this sector provide the best and finest international services to the public from various segments of society.
Al-Ramsi stated, “The inspection patrols focused on the regulations and requirements for bicycles, such as the white headlight, the red rear reflector, the bell mounted on the handlebar, and the front and rear brakes. The patrols also stressed the need for bicycle drivers to adhere to the requirements for practicing the activity, such as wearing the designated uniform, the prescribed protective tools such as a helmet, a reflective vest, and elbow and knee protectors, in addition to the obligation to ride on designated paths and roads at a speed less than 60 km/h and stop in designated places, which are patrols organized on an ongoing basis.”
Al-Ramsi explained that the Authority is constantly working to organize joint awareness campaigns and periodicals in coordination with strategic partners, targeting this vital sector, during which it focuses on providing an explanation of the list of regulations and violations for establishments of order organizing and delivery services, and the circulars and guidelines regulating it, which stipulate the necessity of adhering to the regulations and laws stipulated to ensure the safety of bicycle drivers and road users.
He stated that the Authority continues to work with strategic partners to ensure the implementation of strategic directions in preserving the cultural appearance that distinguishes the city of Dubai, achieving the Authority’s vision of global leadership in easy and sustainable transportation and ensuring the highest standards of safety and efficiency in various means of transportation.
