Tips from the Department of Health Abu Dhabi to reassure children when they hear loud sounds

Today, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi published community guidelines to reassure children when they hear loud noises.
The department confirmed through its account on the “X” platform that it is normal for children to feel afraid when hearing loud sounds, advising parents to be calm and stay close to their children, because “parents’ calmness helps the child feel safe,” according to the department.
The department called on parents to use simple, honest and reassuring words when speaking to children, such as: “You may hear loud noises, but there are those working to keep everyone safe.”
She pointed out that children may cling to their parents for reassurance during this period, and called on the department to sit with them and share quiet activities with them, such as: “exchanging memories, reading, or coloring.”
The department advised people to stop watching disturbing media and avoid frightening conversations in front of them.
She pointed out the necessity of maintaining a daily routine, and adhering to sleep, meal, and play schedules, which helps children feel safe and in control.
She stressed the need to maintain a calm and encouraging tone of voice when communicating with children.
