The green dome that was built over the Noble Prophet’s Chamber appeared in that direction, and was painted green in later stages, to become a prominent landmark on the horizon of the Prophet’s Mosque, towering in the southeastern corner before it was surrounded by successive Saudi expansions.
Development of the Prophet’s Mosque
Qaytbay’s minaret also appeared in the southeastern corner, It was distinguished by its dark stones and delicate decorations, embodying the artistic style in its finest form, while the southwestern minaret at Bab al-Salam constituted one of the prominent historical landmarks, with its ancient character and its location overlooking the area that was known as the house of Marwan ibn al-Hakam.
The architecture on the eastern and southern sides highlighted arcades and courtyards built of stone in a solid style, and they remained in place until the launch of the first Saudi expansion in the year 1372 AH, as part of a comprehensive development system witnessed by the Prophet’s Mosque during the Saudi era.
The Noble Rawdah
The Noble Rawdah, located between the Noble Tomb and the pulpit of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, also reflected special architectural aesthetics, with its columns and decorative details that showed an artistic blend, in a historical image that embodied the spiritual and artistic dimension of this part of the mosque.
This side of the mosque bears Al-Nabawi is an accumulated urban and spiritual legacy that formed an artistic icon in Medina, and a symbol of the interest of Muslims throughout the ages in the architecture, maintenance and development of the Mosque of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.
