Exempting employees stranded outside the country from work

The Kuwaiti Civil Service Commission announced today, Sunday, that employees stranded outside Kuwait will be exempted from work due to the closure of airspace and the exceptional circumstances that the region is going through, as it is an effective period of work until they are able to return to the country. The Diwan said in a statement on the social media platform “X” that it addressed government agencies and public bodies and institutions in Kuwait regarding addressing the conditions of employees who are unable to return due to the exceptional circumstances that the region is going through.

He added that this decision comes to address the conditions of the stranded, as their cases include that the period during which the employee is exempted from work is considered an actual period of practice until they are able to return to the country after opening the airspace or by any other means.

He explained that the period of exemption will be determined after the end of the vacation they were authorized to take, or after the end of the vacation after which they were supposed to return, by the immediate superior or one of the superiors following him, and it will be referred to the Administrative Affairs Department or the competent organizational unit in the entity in this regard.

He stated that he would like to attach evidence of the employee’s presence outside the country during this period in order to include this period as an actual working period on the automated systems in accordance with the established procedures.
