Austria’s GDP will grow by 0.6% in 2025 after two years of recession

Vienna, March 9, 2020: Austria’s gross domestic product grew by 0.6% in 2025, after two years of decline, exceeding the expectations of economic institutes, which expected it to grow by 0.5%.
The latest official data, issued by the Austrian Statistics Authority, showed the recovery of Austria’s economy after a period of economic recession that continued during the years 2023 and 2024.
Manuela Link, Director of the Authority, said that a slight economic recovery is evident in 2025 after two years of decline, and she expected, according to preliminary calculations, that the gross domestic product would reach about 512.8 billion euros in 2025.
Statistics Authority figures showed that the services sector contributed significantly to achieving economic recovery, with an increase of 1%, and the trade, transportation, and residence sectors achieved a slight growth of 0.1%, in conjunction with a significant increase in investment activity and consumer spending, compared to a decline in the construction sector by 2.9%, and a decline in the manufacturing sector by 1.2%.
The authority explained that the foreign trade sector did not contribute significantly to the recovery of Austria’s economy, and attributed this to a significant increase in imports by 1.7% last year 2025, compared to a limited growth in exports of only 0.3%.
