Emirati Doctor’s Day/a march of giving led by national competencies

Abu Dhabi, 11 March / WAM / Today, the UAE celebrates “Emirati Doctor’s Day”, which falls on the 11 of March every year, in an occasion that embodies the process of giving led by Emirati doctors in serving the community and enhancing the quality of health care, in light of the continuous support from the wise leadership, which has contributed to establishing an advanced health system that keeps pace with the latest global medical practices and technologies.

A number of doctors confirmed, in statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, that national medical competencies play a pivotal role in supporting the process of developing the health sector and improving the quality of medical services, by adopting the latest medical practices and enhancing the efficiency of the health system in line with the country’s aspirations towards an advanced and sustainable health system.

For her part, Dr. Salwa Al Kaabi, Pediatric Consultant at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, said that the role of Emirati doctors is not limited to providing therapeutic care only, but extends to include contributing to the development of medical education and scientific research, training and qualification of young medical personnel, in addition to supporting the building of a flexible and innovative health system that keeps pace with international best practices, thus enhancing the sustainability of community health and well-being, and consolidating the UAE’s position as a leading global destination in the health care sector.

For her part, Dr. Hoda Sulaiman Al-Dhanhani, Pediatrics and Infectious Diseases Consultant at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, explained that the specialty of infectious diseases is considered one of the strategic medical specialties in the UAE, because of its pivotal role in protecting national health security, through early detection and rapid response to epidemic risks, in addition to enhancing public health through national vaccination programs, combating antibiotic resistance, and reducing health care-associated infections.

She added that these efforts are directly reflected in improving the quality of health care and protecting society, and also contribute to supporting the sustainability of the health system in the country, especially in light of the increasing global travel and communication witnessed by the UAE, stressing that the specialty of infectious diseases plays an important role in dealing with high efficiency and dynamism with regional and global variables, including the effects of climate change and other factors affecting public health.

For her part, Dr. Arwa Briki, Emergency Medicine Consultant at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, confirmed that Emirati Doctor’s Day represents a national milestone for renewing the pledge to continue work and devotion in serving the nation, and embodies the harvest of the continuous efforts made to build humanity and strengthen the health system in the country.

She said that her work in the field of emergency medicine places her and her colleagues on the front lines of protecting community health and preserving lives, as doctors deal daily with critical medical cases, often being the deciding factor between life and death, which requires the highest levels of preparedness and human and professional responsibility.

While Dr. Nadia Al Matroushi, Consultant in Cardiovascular Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, explained that her move to specialize in cardiology came from a firm belief that medicine is a sublime humanitarian message, explaining that saving patients’ lives and giving them a new lease of life is one of the highest roles that a doctor can play toward his community.

She pointed out that the UAE has achieved remarkable progress in recent years in the field of advanced cardiology, especially in programs for treating heart failure and heart transplantation, thanks to the continuous investment in specialized medical competencies and the adoption of the latest therapeutic technologies, which has contributed to providing health services that are comparable to what is provided by the most prominent international medical centers, and has been directly reflected in improving the therapeutic results for patients and improving their quality of life.

For his part, Dr. Saeed Al Marzouqi, Consultant in Liver and Digestive Diseases at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, confirmed that Emirati doctors in government hospitals continue to develop medical practices and enhance the quality of health care by adopting the latest therapeutic technologies to meet the growing needs of society, indicating his keenness, within the framework of his specialty, to diagnose and treat liver diseases and digestive system disorders using the latest diagnostic methods.
