Kuwait rejects the absence of any clear condemnation of Iranian aggression in the reports of the UN Special Rapporteur and the fact-finding mission

The State of Kuwait expressed on Monday its rejection of the absence of any clear condemnation of the Iranian aggression on its territory and the targeting of civilians there and in the countries of the region, with reports issued by both the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran and the international fact-finding mission in Iran, describing the Iranian attacks as “retaliatory strikes.”
This came in a speech delivered by the Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Heen, within the framework of the joint interactive dialogue between the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran and the international fact-finding mission within the work of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council held in Geneva.
Ambassador Al-Hein stressed that “such a proposal would lend legitimacy to these unjustified and illegitimate hostile actions carried out by Iran against the State of Kuwait and the countries of the region.”
He called for condemning the sinful Iranian attack in the strongest terms, stressing that every threat or attack targeting one of the countries of the region is a threat to its collective security, an unjustified and unacceptable escalation, and represents a clear violation of all international conventions and laws.
Ambassador Al-Hein explained that the UN Security Council adopted Resolution No. (2817) in confirmation of the crime committed by Iran against the countries of the region, which condemned in the strongest terms the Iranian attacks on them and stressed the need to respect the sovereignty of states and reject the targeting of civilians.
In the same context, he renewed the State of Kuwait’s condemnation of Iran’s sinful aggression, raising from the podium of the United Nations Human Rights Council the highest condolences and sympathy to the families of the martyrs from the nation and countries of the region as a result of the blatant attack.
The Kuwaiti Ambassador also reaffirmed the inherent right to self-defense in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
Today, Monday, the United Nations Human Rights Council held a meeting with the UN Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran and the fact-finding committee responsible for investigating Iran to discuss the deteriorating human rights situation in the wake of the security campaign launched by the Iranian authorities during a wave of protests that Iran witnessed.
