Kuwait expresses that the Gulf states welcome the Human Rights Council’s adoption of a resolution condemning Iranian aggression

The Permanent Representative of the State of Kuwait to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain, expressed that the Gulf Group in Geneva welcomed the adoption, by consensus, by the United Nations Human Rights Council, today, of a draft resolution condemning the Iranian attacks that targeted countries in the region.

This came in a speech delivered by Al-Hein on behalf of the Gulf Group before the United Nations Human Rights Council following the latter’s adoption of a draft resolution on “the human rights implications of the attacks launched by Iran against a number of countries in the region.”

In his speech, which was broadcast by Kuwait News Agency, Al-Hain stressed that the adoption of the draft resolution reflects the spirit of cooperation that characterizes this Council when dealing with issues that have direct and serious impacts on human rights.

He pointed out that the adoption of this resolution by consensus reflects a common awareness of the importance of addressing the consequences of these attacks, especially those related to protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure and ensuring respect for relevant international obligations.

Al-Hein explained that this resolution is concerned with condemning the Iranian aggression against the GCC countries and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the resulting grave effects on individuals’ enjoyment of their basic rights. He also reiterated the importance of the Council’s continued involvement in following up on this issue within the framework of its mandate.

He expressed the appreciation of the Arab Gulf states for more than 100 countries that participated in sponsoring the draft resolution, which reflects the broad scope of international support for it and the broad joint sponsorship it received, expressing the Gulf states’ aspiration to build on this consensus and to continue working with all delegations in a way that enhances the Council’s role in dealing with issues related to human rights in a spirit of shared responsibility and constructive cooperation.
