Trump is considering the option of ground intervention in Iran if direct negotiations fail

Israeli sources reported to the Israeli Broadcasting Authority on Sunday evening that US President Donald Trump is seriously considering taking ground measures in Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz if there is no real progress in the negotiations.

In a news report, the authority quoted a diplomatic source as saying that the United States wants to hold a direct meeting with Iran this week.

This comes at a time when the Pentagon is preparing for weeks of ground operations on Iranian soil. These preparations come at a time when thousands of American soldiers and Marines are heading to the Middle East, in what appears to be a new phase in the war.

Israel and the United States have tightened their military coordination in recent days, preparing for the possibility that the negotiations will not succeed.

According to sources, any potential ground operation would not be a full-blown invasion. Rather, the plans include joint raids between special forces and conventional infantry units. According to the report, these operations may expose US forces to a variety of threats, including Iranian drones and missiles, ground fires, and improvised explosive devices. At this point, it is not yet clear whether President Trump will approve the plans in whole or in part.
