185 manuscripts explaining the Holy Qur’an in the King Abdulaziz Public Library

Revealed King Abdulaziz Public Library in Riyadh, from A rare manuscript dating back to the fourth century AH, entitled: “A Stranger of the Qur’an.” Its author is the great scholar of his time, Abu Ubaidah Muammar ibn al-Muthanna al-Taymi al-Basri, “d. 209 AH.”
The number of its parchments consists of “23” parchments, measuring 17 x 22 cm, and the first of them begins as follows: " This is what my Lord said, based on truth and belief. Concerning the cattle, God Almighty said: “Eight pairs…” and the end of the manuscript: “That you will enter Paradise, while God knows those who strive among you and knows those who are patient.” That is, He knows.
Andalusian script
The manuscript, which was written more than 1000 years ago, is from an unprinted book on the sciences of the Qur’an. It was written in an early and readable Andalusian script, and the names of the surahs were in the Kufic script.

Abu Ubaidah (110-209 AH / 728-824 AD) has more than 200 works, which Al-Jahiz described by saying: “There was not on earth more knowledgeable of all the sciences than him.” Among his works are: Metaphors of the Qur’an, Contradictions of Jarir and Al-Farazdaq, The Exploits of the Arabs, Al-Aqqah and Al-Barara, The Days of the Arabs, Meanings of the Qur’an, Classes of Poets, Parsing of the Qur’an and other books.
Various Collections
The library also possesses various, rare and old collections of Interpretation of the Holy Qur’an Among them: The parsing of the Qur’an and its meanings by Abu Ishaq bin Sahl al-Zajjaj “d. 311 AH”, the manuscript was written in the fifth century AH, and the interpretation of the problem of the Qur’an by Ibn Qutaybah al-Dinuri “d. 276 AH”, which is an old manuscript copied in the seventh century AH.
The library also includes a copy of parts of the book Tafsir al-Tabari, “Jami’ al-Bayan fi Tafsir al-Qur’an” by Abu Jaafar al-Tabari. “d. 310 AH” was copied in the sixth century AH, and consists of “77” parchments, and the book: On the Meanings of the Holy Qur’an and its Interpretation by Abu Bakr Muhammad al-Naqqash “d. 351 AH” consisting of “113” pages, and the copying of the manuscript dates back to the seventh century AH.
Heritage Archive
The Heritage Archive of the King Abdulaziz Public Library contains rare collections of Manuscripts,
in the field of sciences of interpretation of the Holy Qur’an, as they are of great importance in analysis and interpretation other than the famous interpretations of Al-Qurtubi, Al-Tabari and others, amounting to more than “185” manuscripts, in addition to hundreds of other manuscripts that deal with the various sciences of the Holy Qur’an, and what is related to the parsing of Qur’anic surahs and grammatical and linguistic issues in the Holy Qur’an. They fall within the four fields into which manuscripts concerned with the Holy Qur’an are divided, namely: interpretation, readings and intonation. And the licenses, the sciences of the Qur’an, and the Qur’ans, as these manuscripts are distributed in the hundreds over these fields.
Qur’anic Spaces
Among these manuscripts that are related to the field of interpretation: The Chapter on Interpretation in the Meanings of Revelation, Al-Taysir fi Al-Tafsir by Omar Al-Nasafi, The Solution to Problems in Understanding Some Verses, which is a manuscript from the 12th century AH/17AD, and Al-Bahr Al-Madid in the Interpretation of the Glorious Qur’an by Ahmed bin Muhammad bin Wonderful, and the features of the revelation in interpretation and interpretation by “Al-Hussein bin Masoud Al-Baghawi”, and “Taqrib Al-Ma’mul” in the order of revelation by “Ibrahim bin Omar”, and the interpretation of the strange Qur’an and its meanings by “Muhammad bin Aziz Al-Sijistani”, and among the rare manuscripts are also: Adab Al-Afnan excerpted from Ruh Al-Bayan, A restriction on the Basmalah, Tafsir Al-Jalalayn, Al-Lubab fi Problems of the Book, Al-Durr Al-Masun fi the sciences of the Hidden Book, a problematic interpretation. The parsing of the Qur’an, a statement of the terms specific to the core of the Qur’an, Al-Najati in the interpretation of Juz Amma, a footnote to Anwar al-Tanzeel by Al-Baydawi, a footnote to Anwar al-Tanzeel and the secrets of interpretation, treasure troves and stores of jewels, interpretation of Surat Al-Fatihah, Al-Durr Al-Manthur in interpretation by the hadiths, Al-Jawahir Al-Hasan in the interpretation of the Qur’an, a benefit related to the verse of the Throne, Al-Kahf and Al-Raqim in the explanation of In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, the interpretation of Sheikh Tamli Al-Sindhi. It contains five hundred verses, highlights and secrets in the benefits of the Qur’an, news, and many other rare manuscripts.
The library always aims to introduce its rare holdings of manuscripts, documents, pictures, coins, and coins to reveal new spaces for studying and receiving heritage in its diversity and various fields. It also aims to serve systematic scientific research by displaying rare manuscripts.
