Al Ain City Municipality achieved a 99% recovery from the weather condition at the end of March

Al Ain, 1st April / WAM / The Municipality of Al Ain City announced its success in achieving a high recovery rate of 99%, after closing the majority of reports received during the weather condition that the city witnessed during the period from 21 to 27 last March, in an achievement that reflects a high level of professionalism and operational efficiency.

The municipality explained that its field teams dealt efficiently and quickly with 2,394 various reports, which included falling trees and lighting poles, water puddles, potholes in some roads, and side collapses in roads and non-urban areas. These reports were handled without recording any serious impacts on public safety, which reflects the effectiveness of the emergency response system and the level of preparedness of the specialized teams.

These efforts came under volatile weather conditions, as the city witnessed rains of varying intensity, heavy and sometimes continuous across the entire Al Ain region. The peak was at dawn on Friday, when the city witnessed very heavy rains falling on the city and continuing with exceptional heavy rains until 5 am, accompanied by winds reaching speeds of 80 kilometers per hour. The field emergency teams succeeded in containing the effects quickly and with continuous high efficiency, which confirms the quality of infrastructure and continuity of services.

The municipality confirmed that it took the initiative, immediately after the weather alerts were issued, to activate the approved emergency plan, which is based on an integrated coordination system between internal emergency teams in the emergency departments, business continuity, operation and maintenance, and the responding technical departments, and in direct cooperation and coordination with the Abu Dhabi Police General Command and a number of concerned authorities, ensuring speed of action and immediate response to various reports.

The operational plan was based on implementing a package of proactive measures, which included examining and cleaning rainwater drainage holes, ensuring the readiness of drainage networks, and confirming the safety of earth berms and dams, in addition to distributing pumps and equipment in vital sites that may witness water accumulations. Contractors were also alerted and their level of preparedness was raised, to ensure rapid intervention when needed.
