Sharjah Antiquities confirms its readiness to protect cultural heritage sites from weather depressions

Sharjah, 1st April / WAM / The Sharjah Archeology Authority confirmed the efficiency of its system in crisis management and business continuity through its dealings with the recent air depression that the country witnessed, which contributed to reducing potential impacts and ensuring the safety of archaeological sites and historical areas in the Emirate of Sharjah, within the framework of its commitment to protecting cultural heritage sites and enhancing their readiness to confront emergency situations.
The Authority appreciated the efforts made by the Crisis and Disaster Management Team and the Authority’s support teams through activating the emergency management plan and the business continuity plan and raising the level of operational readiness, in addition to continuously assessing risks and following up on indicators of the impact on the tangible cultural heritage sites and facilities of the Authority.
Efforts included implementing urgent field assessments of archaeological sites and historical areas, reviewing the risks associated with rain, valley flow, and humidity and their impact on historical buildings and archaeological finds, while taking the necessary preventive measures to protect exposed archaeological elements and secure warehouses, laboratories, and warehouses, in addition to following up on drainage, electricity, and safety systems at tangible cultural heritage sites.
The procedures also included activating follow-up and coordination rooms, ensuring the continuity of vital services and operations, implementing recovery and business recovery plans, documenting any potential effects or damages, and maintaining databases, archaeological records, and digital systems, which limited the potential effects of the depression and contributed to preserving the safety of archaeological sites, historical areas, and facilities affiliated with the Authority.
The authority praised the careful care and follow-up that the emirate received from His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah during the period of the depression, stressing that their royal directives contributed to enhancing preparedness and accelerating the response.
