The management of the “Aswan International Women’s Film Festival,” which will be held from April 20 to 25, decided to award star Laila Elwi the “Isis Achievement Award.” In honor and appreciation of her great talent and her long cinematic career, full of important works.

Laila Alawi, who began her artistic career at an early age, participated in children’s programs on radio and television, then was discovered by the artist Nour El-Sherif, and introduced her to the stage, and the series “Tears Above the Truth” was her first professional work. After that, director Ahmed Tharwat gave her the opportunity to enter the world of cinema, through the movie “For Life.” She participated in the movie “Les Misérables” in 1977, which was her launching point towards stardom.
Over the course of her long cinematic career, she presented dozens of cinematic works that constituted landmarks in the history of Egyptian cinema, during which she cooperated with an elite group of senior directors who contributed to shaping the features of modern cinema. She also presented many successful series, such as: “Hadith al-Sabah wa al-Masa’,” “The Twins,” and “Munwara Bi Ahalha,” in addition to important theatrical appearances such as “The Crazy Nest.”
Star Laila Elwi expressed her happiness and pride with this award and the appreciation of the “Aswan International Women’s Film Festival,” stressing that “this festival has, in a short time, secured a distinguished position for itself, and being honored in the ancient city of Aswan, which is overflowing with beauty and history, gives me an exceptional feeling of gratitude.”
Laila Alawi added that, throughout her artistic career, she was keen to choose roles that touched on women’s reality and championed their issues, including films that contributed to changing laws in favor of women, and that this honor represents an appreciation for every effort she made to present cinema that respects women’s minds and reflects their strength and challenges.
