Joint statement by the Foreign Ministers of the UAE, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Qatar

The Foreign Ministers of the United Arab Emirates, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Republic of Turkey, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the State of Qatar condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli occupation authorities’ enactment of a law approved by the Knesset authorizing the imposition of the death penalty in the occupied West Bank and applying it effectively against Palestinians.

The ministers warned of the ongoing Israeli measures that establish an apartheid regime and adopt an exclusionary discourse that denies the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and their presence in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The ministers stressed that this legislation constitutes a dangerous escalation, especially in light of its discriminatory application against Palestinian prisoners, stressing that such measures would inflame tensions and undermine regional stability.

The Ministers also expressed deep concern about the conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons, warning of increasing risks in light of reliable reports of ongoing violations, including torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment, starvation, and deprivation of their basic rights, stressing that these practices reflect a broader approach to violations against the Palestinian people.

The ministers renewed their rejection of Israeli policies based on racial discrimination, oppression and aggression, which target the Palestinian people.

The ministers stressed the need to refrain from measures imposed by the Israeli occupation authority that would inflame tensions, stressing the importance of ensuring accountability, and calling for intensifying international efforts to maintain stability and prevent further deterioration.
