Emirates Global Aluminum announces initial assessments of operations after the Iranian attacks on its site in Al Taweelah

Emirates Global Aluminum Company announced today the initial evaluations of its operations following the recent Iranian attacks on the company’s site in the Al Taweelah area, which is one of the largest industrial facilities for aluminum production in the world.
The Al Taweelah site was subjected to severe damage as a result of the Iranian missile and drone attacks on the Khalifa Economic Zone – Kizad. The entire site was evacuated and the emergency closure of the site was activated, including the aluminum smelter and foundry, the power station, the Taweelah alumina refinery, and the Al Taweelah recycling plant.
To ensure the restart of the smelter, EGA will have to repair infrastructure damage and gradually restart each reduction cell in the smelter.
The company expected that it would take up to 12 months to fully resume primary aluminum production, according to initial indications, with some production operations at the Al Taweelah alumina refinery and Al Taweelah recycling plant resuming earlier, according to the final assessment of the damages.
Abdul Nasser Bin Kalban, CEO of Emirates Global Aluminum, said: “We strongly condemn the attack that targeted our employees, who represent more than forty different nationalities, while performing their daily work tasks.”
Bin Kalban wished a speedy recovery to the injured, and said, “Our location in Al Taweelah is one of the basic pillars of the global economy, and this attack will affect the supply chains of a number of industries around the world.”
He added: “We place the safety and security of our employees as our top priority, and at the same time we continue our efforts to support our customers around the world, as we work directly with customers whose orders may be affected as a result of the current conditions.”
The production of the Al Taweelah smelter reached about 1.6 million tons of cast aluminum in 2025, and Emirates Global Aluminum maintains large quantities of the metal in the UAE and at its sites around the world, in addition to many marine shipments.
While the Al Taweelah alumina refinery produced 2.4 million tons of alumina during the year 2025, equivalent to 46% of the company’s total alumina needs. The production capacity of the Al Taweelah recycling plant is 185 thousand tons annually.
