Kuwait condemns the acts of intrusion and vandalism that targeted the Kuwaiti Consulate in the city of Basra

The State of Kuwait expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation, in the strongest terms, of the acts of storming and vandalism that targeted the Consulate General of the State of Kuwait in the city of Basra, and the accompanying blatant attacks on the sanctity of the consular mission, in an unacceptable and dangerous violation of diplomatic norms and charters.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement that these actions represent a serious and flagrant violation of the Republic of Iraq’s international obligations, in particular the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations of 1963, especially Article 31, which obliges the host country to ensure full protection of the headquarters of consular missions and preserve their sanctity.
The State of Kuwait held the government of the Republic of Iraq fully and directly responsible for this attack, and for any failure to take the necessary measures to protect the diplomatic and consular missions on its territory.
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs calls on the Iraqi government to take immediate and decisive measures to hold accountable all those involved in these criminal acts, and to ensure that they are not repeated, while taking strict measures to protect all the headquarters of the missions of the State of Kuwait in the Republic of Iraq.
While the State of Kuwait reaffirms that it is not a party to any regional or international conflict, and that it has not and will not allow its territory to be used to launch an attack on any country, in line with its foreign policy based on moderation and positive neutrality and its commitment to the principles and rules of international law and the principles of good neighbourliness, it notes that the continuation of such violations would reflect negatively on the bilateral relations between the two countries, and undermine the foundations of mutual trust.
The State of Kuwait confirmed that it will follow this matter closely, and will not hesitate to take the necessary steps to protect its interests and diplomatic missions, in accordance with international law.
