“Dubai Roads” and “Careem” celebrate the achievement of more than 10 million bicycle trips through “Careem Bike”

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai and Careem announced that more than 10 million bicycle trips have been made through the Careem Bike service since its launch in February 2020 until April 2026, an achievement that reflects the authority’s leadership in providing a safe and sustainable transportation system, and its keenness to encourage the use of environmentally friendly means of transportation, and to support Dubai’s move towards a bicycle-friendly city, which enhances the health of the community and the quality of life for its residents and visitors.

The Roads and Transport Authority continues to develop the bicycle infrastructure, through an integrated network of existing and planned paths, linking residential areas to the main attractions and mass transit stations. The bicycle paths designed according to the highest international standards contribute to facilitating access to various destinations in the emirate efficiently and smoothly, supporting first- and last-mile trips, and promoting the use of sustainable individual means of transportation.

To celebrate this achievement, the Authority and Careem honored the most active users, by granting them a free subscription to the service and “Careem Dine Out” vouchers. The most active user was also honored after completing about 5,000 trips, embodying an active and sustainable culture of transportation in Dubai. Careem Bike will also provide single-trip tickets at a symbolic price of 9.5 dirhams per ticket to new users on April 11 and 12 through the discount code “BIKE10M“, instead of the usual price of 19 dirhams, in order to provide sustainable transportation options and make them easier and more accessible to everyone.

Hussein Al-Banna, Executive Director of the Traffic and Roads Agency at the Roads and Transport Authority, said: “Achieving more than 10 million trips through the use of the Careem Bike service by more than one million users confirms the effectiveness of the Authority’s first and last mile strategy, which is based on sustainability, shared mobility, and user safety. Bicycle trips also support integration with public transportation, and promote the adoption of responsible and environmentally friendly transportation behaviors, as bicycle trips using the Careem Bike service contributed to reducing about 6.59 thousand tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Since the launch of the service, this equates to about 2,084 vehicles on the road.”

Al Banna added: “This achievement reflects the success of the plans and projects of the Emirate of Dubai to expand the implementation of the network of bicycle paths and infrastructure integration projects in the emirate, as the length of the paths increased from 6 km in 2009 to 636 km by the end of 2025, with a plan to reach 1,000 km by the year 2030, in addition to making improvements in the infrastructure of residential areas and around public transport stations, as the growing demand from the community contributed to adopting cycling as an option.” Practical, healthy and environmentally friendly transportation, which led to an increase in the number of trips using bicycles by 23% from 46.6 million trips in 2024 to 57.3 million trips in 2025.”

For his part, Careem’s Chief Business Officer, Basil Al Nahlawi, said: “We are proud to celebrate the achievement of more than 10 million trips through the Careem Bike service. This notable achievement, in addition to the rapid expansion of the scope of the service, embodies the strength of our ongoing partnership with the Roads and Transport Authority, whose support is a pivotal factor in expanding micromobility solutions in Dubai, ensuring that safe and sustainable short-distance mobility options are available to everyone.”

Since its launch in 2020, the Careem Bike service has established itself as one of the basic components of the public transportation system in Dubai, expanding from 71 stations at launch to 210 stations providing more than 2,000 bikes, covering 49 residential neighborhoods in the emirate. The network extends across the most prominent residential areas and vital destinations, including Dubai Marina, Jumeirah Beach, Jumeirah Road, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, The Greens, Barsha Heights, Dubai Water Canal, Dubai Media City, Downtown Dubai, Al Qudra, Al Karama, and Al Mankhool.
