The European Commission stresses the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz without fees

The European Commission stressed the need to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz without imposing any fees or payments.

Commission spokesman Anwar Al-Anouni said in a briefing at the European Union headquarters in Brussels that international law stipulates freedom of navigation, which basically means not imposing any payments or fees for traffic.

He added that freedom of navigation is a public good and must be guaranteed, stressing the importance of respecting international rules that regulate traffic in international sea lanes.
