Teachers reveal the “complete recipe”… 6 foundations that determine the quality of remote classes

Teachers from different specializations revealed to Emirates Today the “complete recipe” for raising the quality of distance learning classes for students at various levels, stressing that it is based on six basic foundations that make a difference in the effectiveness of the classes and determine their level of quality.

Commitment to the principles

Teachers in private schools that implement the ministerial curriculum stressed the importance of adhering to the six pillars when teaching classes via distance learning, stressing that these practices contribute to raising the quality of digital education, enhancing student interaction, and achieving more effective learning outcomes.

They explained that the success of the virtual class depends largely on the clarity of the explanation, organizing the content, and engaging students continuously during the lesson.

New concepts

Teachers indicated that the first of these pillars is presenting new concepts and explaining the lesson content during live classes, ensuring that knowledge is built in a gradual and organized manner.

They stressed the importance of supporting explanations with clear examples and demonstrations, in addition to using presentations that help students follow the ideas and understand them more accurately.

Conciseness and clarity

They pointed out the need to focus on brevity and clarity during explanation, avoiding prolongation that may lead to loss of focus, and dividing the content into short paragraphs supported by continuous interaction. They also stressed the importance of providing multiple opportunities for students to interact and participate during the class, by asking questions and stimulating direct discussions.

Employing tools

Teachers added that employing digital tools represents a fundamental pillar in the success of distance learning, such as using the interactive board, chat, and survey questions, because they provide an active learning environment that enhances student participation.

They stressed the need to guide students and verify their understanding of the instructions before starting any self-learning activities, to ensure their efficient implementation and the achievement of the desired educational goals.

Interactive environment

Teachers indicated that adherence to these principles contributes to transforming virtual classes into an interactive learning environment that simulates face-to-face classes and supports the continuity of learning efficiently, especially in light of the increasing expansion in the use of digital education platforms.

Direct interaction

For his part, Mathematics Coordinator Dr. Amr Munjid said: “These principles are not theoretical. Rather, we apply them daily within the class. When I start with a focused explanation, then I move on to short examples followed by direct interaction, I notice that the students remain in a state of continuous concentration, unlike classes that are dominated by long explanations.”

Check understanding

While standing with her, the Arabic language teacher, Ribal Ghassan Al-Atta, explained: “The most important thing in these pillars is interaction and checking understanding. I make sure to involve all students through questions and chat, and I make sure of their understanding before moving on to any activity. This method reduced educational gaps and raised the level of participation significantly.”
