المملكة: Extending the deadline for amending the status of light and heavy transportation facilities until August 27, 2026

The Board of Directors approved General Authority for Transport A package of regulatory amendments included extending the deadline for amending the status of land transport facilities on roads for light and heavy goods transport activities, whether for commercial or non-commercial purposes, until August 27, 2026, with the aim of enabling the facilities to complete compliance requirements in accordance with the approved executive regulations.
The decision included Extending the deadline related to amending the type of registration in heavy transport activities from private to public transport, based on the provisions of the executive regulations, which gives companies an additional period to correct their regulatory conditions and keep pace with the new requirements regulating the sector.
Passing the proficiency test
The decision included amending the mechanism for implementing Professional competency requirements for drivers, as it was decided that drivers with valid cards will be required to pass the professional competency test starting from the expiry date of their cards, after launching professional qualification programs for drivers of heavy transport or transporting hazardous materials.
On the other hand, the obligation for drivers who do not have cards or those who have expired cards begins from the date of launching these programs, which contributes to raising the efficiency of human resources and enhancing safety levels in the transportation sector.
Modifying the conditions of light transport facilities
The authority confirmed that the extension also includes the deadline included in the mechanism for amending the status of light freight transport facilities, in a way that enhances the integration of regulatory efforts between various land transport activities, and gives all establishments operating in the sector a unified opportunity to adjust their status.
The decision stipulated the possibility of submitting a request for an additional extension of the specified deadline if necessary, in accordance with the provisions of Royal Decree No. (M/188) dated 8/24/1446 AH, in a way that ensures flexibility of application without prejudice to regulatory objectives.
The Authority clarified that these amendments will come into effect from the date of their issuance, provided that they are published in the Official Gazette, within the framework of enhancing transparency and enabling the concerned authorities to see the details and adhere to them.
