The US budget deficit stabilizes in the first quarter of 2026


Shadow of deficit was almost stable during the first three months of 2026, as increased revenues, especially from income taxes and customs duties, compensated for the acceleration in spending.

According to data published by Friday, the deficit reached $164 billion between January and March, an increase of $4 billion over the same period of the previous year.

These months in the United States represent the second quarter of fiscal year 2026.

And during the first six months of this fiscal year, By 11%, or $139 billion, thanks to the increase in revenues that occurred between October and December as a result of raising customs duties.

However, the Supreme Court canceled a large portion of these duties earlier this year, as it is expected that the Treasury Department will have to return the additional fees collected to companies.

Several companies have filed lawsuits in this regard, which may ultimately affect the federal budget.
