An Emirati doctor wins the World Health Organization Award for Down Syndrome Research for the Eastern Mediterranean Region

The Emirates Health Services Corporation announced that Dr. Noha Al Zaabi, Consultant in Genetic, Metabolic and Pediatric Diseases at Fujairah Hospital, won the Research Award in the field of Down Syndrome – the State of Kuwait Award in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, awarded by the World Health Organization, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the development of scientific research and health services provided to people with Down Syndrome and their families, and her role in strengthening the integrated care system for this group at the regional level.
Dr. Issam Al Zarouni, Executive Director of the Medical Services Sector at the Emirates Health Services Corporation, stressed that this international honor embodies the high scientific standing of the medical competencies working in the Corporation’s facilities, and reflects its commitment to enhancing research and innovation in priority health fields, which contributes to the development of specialized care models based on international best practices.
He added that the Emirates Health Services Corporation pays great attention to developing an integrated system for genetic care and supporting research efforts that contribute to improving the quality of life of patients and their families, in line with national trends aimed at building a healthier society with a higher quality of life, and enhancing the UAE’s position as a regional center of excellence in medical research and subspecialties.
For her part, Dr. Noha Al Zaabi expressed her pride in receiving this award, which represents international appreciation for the research and clinical efforts made in the field of Down syndrome, stressing that this achievement reflects the integrated work between medical personnel and community partners to support this category.
She added, “We are keen to develop specialized services that meet the health and social needs of people with Down Syndrome and their families, by adopting early diagnosis and intervention programs based on scientific evidence, enhancing the capabilities of caregivers, in addition to supporting community initiatives that contribute to empowering this group and improving their quality of life.”
