The Federal National chairs the meeting of the Sustainable Development Committee during the meetings of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Istanbul

Member of the Federal National Council group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Chair of the Sustainable Development Committee, Mira Sultan Al-Suwaidi, one of the Union’s permanent committees, chaired the committee meeting, which was held within the meetings of the 152nd General Assembly of the Union, and the 217th session of the Governing Council, which is hosted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly during the period from April 14 to 19, 2026, in the city of Istanbul.

Member of the Federal National Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Khaled Omar Al-Kharji, participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the summary records of the previous session were approved, and the committee also discussed the draft resolution entitled: “Building a just and sustainable global economy: The role of parliaments in combating protectionism, reducing customs tariffs, and preventing corporate tax evasion.”

The committee’s work culminated in the adoption of the draft resolution, which enhances the role of parliaments in supporting sustainable economic growth and consolidating the principles of economic justice at the international level.

It also participated in a joint meeting with the Chairs of the Geopolitical Groups, the Chairs of the Standing Committees and the Chairs of other specialized bodies of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and a meeting of the Steering Committee of the General Assembly.
