Saqr Ghobash discusses with a member of the German Bundestag the escalation in the region and its repercussions on regional and international security and stability.

Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council, met with Alexander Radwan, member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and the European Affairs Committee in the German Bundestag, head of the German delegation, on the sidelines of the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Istanbul.
During the meeting, developments in the regional situation were discussed, especially in light of the recent escalation in the region and its repercussions on regional and international security and stability.
Saqr Ghobash stressed that the attacks against the UAE cannot be justified in any way, pointing out that the country had explicitly made it clear that it would not allow its lands, airspace, or waters to be used to carry out any attacks, in compliance with its established principles based on respecting the sovereignty of states and not engaging in conflicts.
Ghobash reviewed the extent of the threats that the state faced, explaining that more than 95% of the attacks that targeted its territory were successfully confronted, thanks to the efficiency and readiness of the air defense systems, which reflects the state’s ability to protect its security and stability.
He pointed out that Iranian behavior in the region, which has been going on for more than 47 years and is based on interference in the affairs of states and supporting arms in a number of regional arenas, raises serious questions about the possibility of coexistence with this approach in the future, wondering how to deal with a regime that is still practicing these policies, and what might happen if it possessed nuclear capabilities.
He warned of the danger of threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, stressing that such steps do not only target countries in the region, but also affect the global economy, international supply chains, and the safety of maritime navigation.
In a related context, Ghobash stressed that the UAE, in dealing with these circumstances, has committed to a comprehensive humanitarian approach, and has worked to provide various forms of support and care for all communities on its soil.
For his part, Alexander Radwan, regarding the developments witnessed by the UAE, expressed his country’s solidarity with the UAE and its support in facing these challenges, praising the efficiency of the measures taken by the state to protect its security and the safety of its residents.
The two sides stressed the importance of coordinating positions within the Inter-Parliamentary Union to issue unified parliamentary positions that are in the interest of everyone.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi and: Mira Sultan Al Suwaidi, Sarah Muhammad Falaknaz, and Khaled Al Kharji, members of the Federal National Council, and Tariq Ahmed Al Marzouqi, Assistant Secretary-General for Council Presidency Affairs, in the presence of Saeed Thani Al Dhaheri, the UAE Ambassador to Türkiye.
