The movement is ready to give up some of its weapons

Two Hamas officials confirmed the movement’s readiness to abandon thousands of automatic rifles and other weapons belonging to the police and security forces in the Gaza Strip. The two officials told the American newspaper “The New York Times” that the movement is ready to hand over these weapons to the Palestinian Administrative Committee formed by the Peace Council, the international organization led by US President Donald Trump, to supervise the ceasefire, with the aim of entrusting it with managing Gaza’s affairs.

This step represents a noticeable change in the approach of Hamas, which has always publicly refused to give up any of its weapons.

However, this proposal does not rise to the level of complete disarmament of Gaza, which is a basic demand of Israel and a pillar of Trump’s plan in the Strip, which also requires removing Hamas from power and preventing it from any role in governance.

When asked whether the committee would also be able to confiscate weapons from the military wing of Hamas, the two officials did not provide a clear answer, according to the New York Times.
