The unemployment rate in Britain drops to 4.9%

LONDON, April 22 / WAM / The unemployment rate in the United Kingdom fell to 4.9% during the three months ending last February, compared to 5.2% in the same period of the previous year, according to data released today, Tuesday, by the Office of National Statistics.
The unemployment rate in February hit its lowest level since the three months ending in August 2025. Annual wage growth, excluding bonuses, was 3.6%, up from 3.5% in the previous period.
The Office for National Statistics explained that the decline in unemployment is due to a rise in the number of people who have stopped looking for work, not to an increase in employment. The office indicated a decrease in the number of students searching for work in conjunction with their studies.
