160 billion dirhams investment targets within 5 years

Abdullah Humaid Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Department of Energy in Abu Dhabi, confirmed that Earth Day this year, which comes under the slogan “Our Power, Our Planet,” reflects a growing global awareness that resource sustainability is no longer a parallel path to development, but has become an essential part of the design of modern economic and operational systems.

Al Jarwan said, in a statement on this occasion, that the Emirate of Abu Dhabi is working to develop an integrated energy and water system built on the foundations of efficiency, reliability and sustainability, to ensure meeting the growing demand, while maintaining the competitiveness of the economy and enhancing the security of supplies.

He explained that the emirate has achieved a qualitative transformation in the energy mix, as the percentage of clean and renewable energy sources exceeded 45%, with a clear path to reach 60% in the coming years, supported by the continuous expansion of solar energy projects by adding more than 3 gigawatts annually, in addition to investing in energy storage solutions through batteries, and developing advanced infrastructure to ensure the stability of the system.

He pointed out that the department is working to enable various segments of society to contribute directly to this transformation, by developing regulatory frameworks that support more efficient energy production and consumption, including expanding artificial intelligence policies, and promoting the use of solar energy for self-production in the residential sector, which contributes to raising consumption efficiency, reducing pressure on the network, and enhancing its flexibility.
.
He added that the Department of Energy continues to implement energy and water efficiency strategies, which aim to reduce consumption by 22% of electricity and 32% of water by 2030, with investment targets within five years of approximately 160 billion dirhams, which reflects a clear commitment to achieving sustainability based on measurable results.

He pointed out that this transformation comes within the UAE’s vision to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, by building integrated systems that combine innovation, resource efficiency and long-term planning, in partnership with various local and international bodies, in a way that enhances the country’s position as a global model to be emulated in developing advanced solutions based on innovation and advanced technology.
He stressed that sustainability is achieved through the actual implementation of policies, the efficient design of systems, and the integration of roles between institutions and society, ensuring the protection of natural resources, enhancing the quality of life, and building a more sustainable future for future generations.
