ABU DHABI, 23 APRIL / WAM / Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company “Masdar” celebrates this month the twentieth anniversary of its founding and continues to achieve more progress and achievements and consolidate its position as one of the leading global companies in developing clean energy solutions and technologies.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Masdar, said on this occasion that, thanks to the forward-looking vision and a strategic decision of the wise leadership, Masdar was established twenty years ago to consolidate the role of the UAE in the energy sector by investing in various clean energy solutions, and creating a diverse and integrated mix of its sources.

He added that “Masdar” today represents a leading model for integrating low-carbon energy solutions into the global energy mix, having achieved a record of achievements in developing projects, enhancing production capabilities, and benefiting from advanced technology and artificial intelligence techniques, ensuring the provision of competitive solutions with sustainable value to customers and partners. In just two decades, the company has expanded to spread its projects in various parts of the world, and contributes effectively to supporting countries’ plans to reach their national goals in the field of clean energy.

His Excellency stressed that, in line with the UAE’s vision of building bridges of cooperation and building quality partnerships as a basic pillar for achieving growth, Masdar continues to contribute to concluding strategic partnerships and joint work, opening new horizons for investment, developing the energy system, raising its efficiency and flexibility, and supporting sustainable development paths around the world.

He stressed that energy is an essential foundation for building strong and stable economies, supporting the growth and prosperity of societies, and it is the engine that enables the world to progress with confidence and stability in building a prosperous future.

Masdar, which was founded in 2006, has implemented ambitious plans based on knowledge and excellence in developing and implementing renewable energy projects in the region and the world, with a focus on innovative solutions.

He added that as Masdar enters a new decade of growth, it continues to build on its pioneering achievements, based on a clear vision, to accelerate expansion efforts in global markets, and move towards achieving the goal of 100 gigawatts by 2030, which confirms its firm commitment to providing clean, reliable energy at an appropriate cost, and contributing to supporting sustainable economic and social growth and enhancing energy security worldwide.

Since its establishment, “Masdar” has played an important role in developing strategic projects that constitute pivotal stations in the field of clean energy. The UAE’s efforts in this vital field began in 2009 with the inauguration of “Masdar” its first project with a production capacity of 10 megawatts in Masdar City, leading up to the inauguration of the Al Dhafra photovoltaic solar power station during the year 2023, with a capacity of 2 gigawatts, that is, 200 times more. This station is considered one of the largest stations in the world. The world.

The company launched the “Shams” station in 2013, which at that time constituted the first utility-scale concentrated solar power station in the Middle East, with a capacity of 100 megawatts, and it is still considered today one of the largest stations of its kind in the region, in addition to developing the third and sixth phases of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park project with a capacity of 2,600 megawatts, which is the largest solar energy complex in one location in the world, according to the independent producer system, and its production capacity will reach 5000 MW by 2030.

Masdar has also developed other huge projects in the country, including the Emirates Wind Energy Programme, the first of its kind in the UAE, with a production capacity of 103.5 megawatts. The program relies on the latest advanced and innovative technologies that are suitable for low wind speeds, and was developed according to the latest innovations in materials science and aerodynamics.

Masdar was the first to launch the first and largest project of its kind in the world to generate clean energy around the clock with a capacity of 5.2 GW, equipped with an energy storage battery system with a capacity of 19 GW/hour.

This achievement represents a qualitative leap in the clean energy sector. By integrating solar energy technologies with energy storage battery systems, the project allows the network to be supplied with renewable electricity without interruption around the clock, and at the same time contributes to consolidating the UAE’s leading position globally in adopting and developing future energy solutions.

With the global demand for electricity increasing as a result of the rapid growth of data centers and artificial intelligence technologies, Masdar’s projects are emerging as a prominent contributor to supporting sustainable energy infrastructure, by providing low-emission and reliable electricity that supports the global digital transformation.
