20% reduction in traffic truck accidents in the emirate during 2025

The Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai announced the achievement of record results during the year 2025, represented by a 20% reduction in truck traffic accidents in the Emirate of Dubai, which reflects the impact of the authority’s integrated efforts in strengthening the traffic safety system and developing the infrastructure and legislation regulating the logistical transport sector, to support its competitiveness and the sustainability of its business according to the highest safety standards. The Authority implemented three specific initiatives in the truck sector, within the framework of enhancing traffic safety and raising the efficiency of the logistical transport sector, which is one of the vital pillars supporting economic growth and enhancing the emirate’s competitiveness, due to its pivotal role in the smooth movement of goods and the efficiency of supply chains.
The Authority’s initiatives focused on addressing operational challenges and raising safety levels proactively, and included: installing rear barriers on trucks to reduce serious collision accidents and raise levels of protection for road users, providing specialized development and training programs targeting drivers and operators, to raise their technical and behavioral competence and adherence to best operational practices, in addition to strengthening the rapid response system to prevent stalled trucks from being parked on main roads, and towing them immediately, which contributes to the smooth flow of traffic and reducing the occurrence of accidents.
The Authority organized more than 30 awareness campaigns targeting shipping companies and truck drivers during the year 2025, as part of efforts to enhance traffic safety and raise the level of awareness among road users, with the aim of reducing wrong behavior, which is one of the most prominent causes of road accidents. The campaigns focused on educating about the negative phenomena associated with driving, such as: sudden deviation, not leaving a sufficient safety distance, not giving way to other vehicles, and reversing without paying attention, and the resulting direct dangers to traffic safety and the smooth flow of movement.
The tools and means of implementing campaigns have varied to ensure that awareness messages reach various categories of workers in the logistics transport sector, as they included distributing guidance leaflets in several languages appropriate to the diversity of nationalities working in the sector, in addition to implementing targeted media campaigns through traditional media, digital platforms and social media. This diversity contributed to expanding the scope of influence, enhancing the effectiveness of awareness messages, raising levels of compliance with traffic laws and regulations, and establishing a culture of safe driving among truck drivers.
The Authority allocated 14 truck rest stops, distributed across six vital locations, strategic streets and logistics cities, within the framework of enhancing traffic flow and raising safety levels on the road network. This initiative contributed to achieving a better balance in distributing truck traffic on alternative roads, which reflected positively on traffic efficiency. These efforts also led to a 70% reduction in the issuance of movement permits during lockdown times in 2025 compared to 2024, thus increasing the level of compliance with the new regulatory measures.
The Authority was keen to implement inspection campaigns to target the phenomenon of random parking of trucks on main streets and under bridges in a number of vital areas in the emirate, in order to control violating behavior and limit practices that obstruct traffic and pose a danger to road users. It also intensified technical inspections by 8% in the year 2025, through joint night patrols, with the aim of verifying the safety of trailers, tires and taillights, and ensuring compliance with regulations and traffic safety on the streets of the emirate.
