The suspected shooter was seeking to assassinate Trump and other officials

On Sunday, US government spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt described the attack that occurred during a dinner in Washington as an attempt to assassinate President Donald Trump and senior officials in his government.
Levitt said on the X platform that the dinner party held on Saturday “was attacked by a crazy and deviant person who sought to assassinate the president and kill as many senior Trump administration officials as possible.”
Levitt, who was also sitting in the VIP podium, explained that she was taken to a safe place with Trump and First Lady Melania, and added: “President Trump has been truly brave, but as he said last night, this political violence must end.”
For his part, Attorney General Todd Blanche stated earlier that the suspect’s motive is still under investigation.
Blanche noted that based on preliminary findings, investigators assume the alleged gunman was targeting members of the Trump administration.
A heavily armed man stormed a security checkpoint during a dinner party with the capital’s press on Saturday evening, before security forces took control of him.
Shooting took place during the incident, while bodyguards transferred the president to a safe place.
