Institutions that work with Iranian airlines face the risk of sanctions

US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent said today that institutions that deal with Iranian airlines are at risk of facing US sanctions, and described this warning as part of a campaign aimed at exerting economic pressure on Iran in the midst of the war launched by the United States and Israel against it.

Official Iranian media reported over the weekend that Iran had resumed commercial flights from Tehran International Airport for the first time since the start of the war.

The US Treasury says that Washington is imposing a “financial stranglehold” on the Iranian government.

“Doing business with Iranian airlines subject to sanctions exposes the risk of US sanctions,” Besant said in a post on X. He added, “Foreign governments should take all necessary measures to ensure that companies under their jurisdiction do not provide any services to these aircraft, including providing them with aviation fuel, catering services, landing or maintenance fees.”
