Fears that America will be drawn into a cold war with Iran

American officials expressed their concern about the United States being drawn into a state of cold war with Iran, in which there is no war or agreement.
They said in statements to the “Axios” website that the Cold War means maintaining the American blockade on the Strait of Hormuz and waiting for one of the parties to retreat to reach an agreement, or for one of them to escalate first.
They added that the Cold War is the worst that US President Donald Trump could face politically and economically, especially with the midterm elections approaching.
Five advisors who spoke with Trump confirmed that the president is oscillating between the option of launching new military strikes or waiting to see whether the “maximum pressure” policy, through sanctions, will push Iran to negotiate an end to its nuclear program.
One advisor said the president told him that the Iranians “only understand bombs,” and added, “The president is frustrated, but he is realistic. He does not want to use force, but he has no intention of backing down either.”
