“The region will not enjoy stability” without the establishment of a Palestinian state

Jordanian King Abdullah II affirmed during his meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman on Tuesday that “the region will not enjoy stability” without the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, according to a statement from the Royal Court.

The statement said that King Abdullah stressed that “the region will not enjoy stability without granting the Palestinians their full legitimate rights and establishing an independent Palestinian state on the basis of the two-state solution.”

He also renewed his rejection of any Israeli measures aimed at “imposing a new reality in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza,” in reference to settlement activity in the West Bank, the demolition of Palestinian homes in Jerusalem, and the occupation of the Gaza Strip.

The repercussions of the US-Israeli war with Iran diverted attention from the Palestinian issue. Talk of US President Donald Trump’s plan to reconstruct Gaza and the “Peace Council” initiative stopped.
