Dubai Police warns of the danger of pedestrians crossing from places not designated for them

Director of the General Traffic Department at Dubai Police, Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, warned of the danger of pedestrians crossing from places not designated for them, indicating that crossing from places not designated for pedestrians is considered one of the main reasons for run-over accidents.
Brigadier General Jumaa bin Suwaidan explained that the concerned authorities in the emirate have provided safe and equipped bridges and crossings for pedestrians on the highways, but some individuals still insist on crossing these roads from undesignated places, in extremely dangerous behavior that may lead to serious run-over accidents, given the high speeds and the difficulty of vehicles stopping suddenly.
This came after a person was injured in a run-over accident that occurred on Al Khawaneej Road, as a result of him crossing the road from an area not designated for pedestrians, which led to a vehicle colliding with him, resulting in minor injuries, and he was provided with the necessary medical care at the scene of the accident.
Brigadier General Jumaa bin Suwaidan urged pedestrians to adhere to the correct crossing rules of the road, and to ensure that the street is free of vehicles, pointing out that Article No. 89 of the Federal Traffic Law stipulates that pedestrians who do not adhere to the traffic light or cross the road from other than designated places will be fined, as they will be fined 400 dirhams for exposing themselves and road users to danger.
He called on pedestrians to adhere to the safe crossing of the places designated for them, to adhere to the traffic lights at intersections, and not to expose their lives and the lives of road users to danger. He called on drivers to be careful and attentive, especially on roads that witness a high traffic density. He pointed out that Dubai Police continues to implement field and media awareness campaigns targeting pedestrians and drivers alike, to enhance the culture of traffic safety, and reduce wrong behaviors that may lead to painful accidents.
