Energy costs push up inflation in Germany

Berlin, April 29 / WAM / The inflation rate rose in Germany this April due to the sharp rise in energy prices.

Preliminary data issued by the National Statistical Office showed that German inflation rose to 2.9 percent on an annual basis from 2.8 percent in March, driven by a 10.1 percent rise in oil and natural gas prices on an annual basis.

The German government expects inflation to accelerate to 2.7 percent this year and 2.8 percent in 2027, compared to 2.2 percent last year due to high energy costs.
