Inflation in Vietnam reaches 5.46% and the trade deficit widens in April

Hanoi, May 3 (WAM) – Vietnam recorded a rise in consumer prices by 5.46% during April, compared to the same month last year, accelerating from 4.65% in March, driven by increased energy costs against the backdrop of the Iran war.
The National Statistics Office in Vietnam said today that the acceleration of inflation is due to the rise in gas prices locally in line with global fuel prices, noting that the increase in raw material and transportation costs also contributed to raising the prices of services and construction.
Industrial production rose by 9.9% in April on an annual basis, compared to a growth of 4.6% in March. Exports also increased by 21%, reaching $45.52 billion, while imports rose by 32.5% to $48.8 billion.
The trade deficit widened in April to $3.28 billion, compared to $677 million in March.
