Dubai Health Department identifies 5 measures to prevent and control asthma and warns of 3 symptoms that require immediate assistance

The Dubai Health Authority has identified a package of integrated procedures and directives to deal with asthma, which included 5 procedures and guidelines for preventing and controlling the disease, 4 common mistakes that must be avoided, in addition to 3 symptoms that require immediate assistance, coinciding with World Asthma Day.
She explained that these procedures include “avoiding triggers (dust, perfumes, smoking, and animal dander), adhering to the treatment plan, using preventive sprays regularly and correctly, obtaining the necessary vaccinations such as influenza and pneumonia, adhering to the daily treatment plan, and periodic follow-up with the doctor.”
The authority stressed the importance of immediate intervention and seeking help in emergency cases, which include 3 symptoms (severe difficulty breathing, failure to respond to emergency inhalers, difficulty speaking, or blue lips).
The authority explained that asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the airways and leads to their narrowing and increased sensitivity, causing symptoms that include shortness of breath, wheezing in the chest, frequent coughing, especially at night, and a feeling of pressure in the chest.
She indicated that there are 5 main causes of asthma, which include “dust, pollen, smoke, including smoking, respiratory infections, exercise, cold air, perfumes, and chemicals.”
The authority warned of 4 common mistakes that patients make, including “relying on the emergency inhaler only, stopping treatment when symptoms improve, incorrect use of the inhaler, and ignoring early symptoms, stressing that these behaviors may lead to a worsening of the condition. It also identified a set of measures that indicate that asthma is not under control, which are the recurrence of symptoms during the week, waking up at night due to symptoms, the frequent need to use the emergency inhaler, and the effect of symptoms on daily activity.
Dubai Health confirmed that awareness represents the first step to better breathing, stressing that controlling asthma begins with adherence to treatment and avoiding triggers, leading to a healthier, more stable life.
