"Abu Dhabi Environment" It reviews the latest developments in the grazing season for the year 2026 in a session in Madinat Zayed

Al Dhafra, 6 May / WAM / The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority and the Al Dhafra Municipality, organized an awareness session yesterday evening at the Madinat Zayed Council.
The session targeted camel owners and breeders to emphasize proper grazing procedures for the current 2026 grazing season and comes as part of a series of community initiatives to enhance environmental awareness of the exceptional decision to advance the season to support camel owners and breeders in the emirate.
The session witnessed a review of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi’s decision, issued under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Directors, to advance the start date of the grazing season, starting from April 22 until October 15, 2026.
Representatives of the participating bodies explained that this proactive measure was based on the study carried out by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, and in coordination with the concerned authorities, taking into account several factors, including the amounts of heavy rain that the emirate witnessed during the months of March and April of this year, which reflected positively on the continued presence of wild plants in pastures.
Engineer Khalfan Abdul Aziz Al Suwaidi, Director of the Department of Natural Reserves and Enforcement at the Environment Agency, confirmed in a statement to the Emirates News Agency that this season is the fourth to be organized under Law No. 11 of 2020 regarding the regulation of grazing in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and its executive regulations.
He said that the dates and controls are determined based on the results of studies carried out by the Authority, and in continuous consultation with the local community and senior citizens with long experience and knowledge in the field of grazing.
He explained that cooperation with partners ensures smooth procedures, as it is required to obtain a license through the “Tamm” platform to present a valid livestock inventory certificate issued by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, and that the applicant must be a citizen of the UAE, and that he must not be less than 21 years old, and that the activity of practicing grazing should be limited to camels only, and it is forbidden to transfer the license to another person. The fee for issuing the license is 250 dirhams and the fee for renewing it is 150 dirhams.
Al-Suwaidi added that grazing was allowed in all open wild areas, with the need to stay 2 kilometers away from prohibited areas, including forests, natural reserves, vital installations and roads.
He stressed the role of breeders as partners in protecting the environment, maintaining the cleanliness of sites, not leaving fences or damaging non-grazing plants, and not leaving camels to graze without facilities to ensure their safety and the safety of road users.
He pointed out that more than 1,600 licenses have been issued so far, pointing out that adherence to the “no grazing seasons” in previous periods led to the recovery and renewal of vegetation, which enhances the sustainability of natural pastures for future generations and preserves the ancient traditional heritage of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
