Launching specific initiatives

The Fund’s efforts were not limited to financial support, but rather extended to launching specific initiatives that contribute to the development of the film sector, most notably the empowerment of women in cinema. By supporting graduation films from the first university specialized in filmmaking in the Kingdom, in addition to building international partnerships with international festivals, and offering financial prizes for exceptional projects, which enhances the presence of supported productions on the international scene.

As part of its drive to discover new voices, the Fund targets filmmakers from the region, searching for a renewed creative wave that includes various genres, from novels and documentaries to animated films, whether short or long, in a way that reflects the diversity of the cinematic scene and the breadth of its horizons.

The Fund adopts a clear annual calendar for financing rounds, with the first round launching in January dedicated to supporting the post-production phase, followed by the second round in March to finance production, then the third round in May to support project development (writing), while the fourth round concludes in July with funding the post-production and development phases, in an operational model that keeps pace with the needs of the industry at its various stages.

In the development phase, the Fund provides comprehensive support to transform ideas into production-ready projects, targeting long films that exceed 60 minutes in various stages. types, in addition to series whose episode duration ranges between 25 and 59 minutes, while allocating support for short films by Saudi directors, in a way that enhances the local movement and nourishes the market with new talents.

As for the production stage, the Fund focuses on projects ready for filming, providing support for feature films and series, in addition to Saudi short films, which contributes to advancing the implementation wheel and transforming texts into visual works. In the post-production stage, it directs its support to works that have finished filming and need to complete the editing and technical processing processes to reach their final version.

This integration of support tools reflects a strategic vision that aims to build a sustainable film industry, which is not limited to financing projects, but rather works to develop an integrated system that keeps pace with international standards, which is strengthened with the recent expansion towards Asia, in a step that opens broader horizons for international cooperation and exchange of experiences, and consolidates the position of the Red Sea Fund as a pivotal player in the future of cinema regionally.
